Welcome to…
Nottingham’s Next Bottom Model competition blog site!
In July 2011, Bright Ideas Nottingham launched a competition called ‘Nottingham’s Next Bottom Model’. This competition was to promote awareness of bowel cancer and the importance of returning the National Bowel Cancer Screening Kits.
The competition was to create a toilet roll doll. The winning dolls would be the faces of Bright Ideas Nottingham campaign to promote awareness of bowel cancer and the importance of returning the National Bowel Cancer Screening Kits.
The competition was open to anyone aged 16+ and entries could be submitted in the following four categories.
1 Diversity: Create a doll that some way represents the diversity of your community
2 Nottingham: Create a doll using the vibrancy of Nottingham as your inspiration
3 Traditional: If you already have a doll that deserves to be a celebrity – then dig him or her out
4 Design: Put your imagination to the test, create an image of your dream doll.

The bright ideas dollies visited the event for Ethnic Minority Cancer Awareness Week yesterday where they launched their competition to find Nottingham’s next bottom model. Our little celebrities had their photos taken with people like musician Freddie Kofi and with staff from Bowel Cancer UK and Genetic Alliance UK.
We asked the audience, if we were to make a film about the dollies and the bowel cancer screening kit, what would we call it. Bright Ideas staff loved the idea “This is how we roll”. Send us your ideas.
Does any one know of any knitting or crochet or sewing classes and clubs in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire that we could send the competition details to?
Just what we need to get people laughing and ‘loosened up’!
Lisa! did you do this? Was this your idea? That’s so hilarious! You’re almost as funny as I am! Perhaps we should team “dowm?”
Hi Lindsay Loo. This is all for the Bright Ideas and BME Cancer Community’s competition. We will be posting up entries as and when they come it. If it gets people talking and laughing, it has to be a good thing!
Nah get dat deh demanding wife a yours, Rosie Roll, to bog, mi seh blog we.
Lisa Loo (with the same last name, people might mistake me for your wife!)
Frequently asked question: Do you need to be from Nottingham to enter?
Answer: No, we’ve just had interest in the competition from Portugal so all entries are welcome!
Great stuff Lisa Loo!
There is seemingly no concept of toilet roll dollies here in Abu Dhabi. Unfortunately ‘body talk’ in general is tabooish but things are starting to change. Still, I threw the idea of the film out to a few people. One suggestion was ‘Toilet To-Let’ but personally I like ‘This is how we roll’!
I love this is how we roll…
My contributions…
‘in the can’
‘lisa’s lavlies’
‘flush dance’
‘flush gordon’
‘flush in the pan’
‘look behind you’
Better stop before it gets worse!
Yeah lovin’ these, lose the ‘look’ and just have ‘behind you – like in pantomimes – that could make for an interesting little film. Has anyone watched the films made by the people at toiletrolldolls.com?
We discovered this organisation last year – amazingly creative and really funny – go to their archives to see the best of their toilet roll doll films.
Just to let everyone know, the competition is being featured in ‘The Chaser’ – a local magazine for St Ann’s, Nottingham and they LOVE the idea!
Ooooh isn’t this gorrrrrrgeous! I used to have one of these. I wonder if I’ve still got it in the loft.

If you dare venture on the link above ensure you have plenty of toilet paper your attire. You will need it!
That should say ‘under’ your attire. Laugh, I nearly wet myself – with tears you understand!
Hey what’s the name of the cute TRD’s friend on the news page? I might have some work for him. Just waiting for Windy Wendy to air her views!
I have to say thanks so much to Nicker Bekhah Glory for her hard work on the b(l)og. I know that it can sometimes be a strain but she always manages to do a fantastic jobbie!
Sorry, that’s Knicker with a K. By the way, can anyone remember that wonderful children’s programme, Trumpton? I think we need a section on the b(l)og dedicated to all things Trumpton!
Remember Mr Clamp (Liam, that’s Clamp with an l) from Trumpton? Apart from selling fruit and veg, Mr Clamp was also the judge at the fruit veg show. We all know that eating more fruit and veg helps to keep us healthier and that can only help in the prevention of ill health:
“Come buy my vegetables, fruit ripe and beautiful. Fine fresh and fancy, come buy them from me. Come buy, come buy, come buy them from me. Cabbages carrots and tender spring greens, Broccoli, brussel-tops, fresh runner beans, Peaches and plumbs, pears by the pound Parsnips and beetroot, straight from the ground. Apples and oranges, strawberries too. Mushrooms, gathered in this morning’s dew. Radishes, lettuces, onions shallottes, Tomatoes, potatoes and lots and lots – of spinach. Come buy my vegetables, fruit ripe and beautiful. Fine fresh and fancy, come buy them from me. Come buy, come buy, come buy them from me!”
The dollies visited 97.5 Kemet FM today to promote the competition on Christine Belle’s Mid-morning show. Christine absolutely loves the idea of the competition which has Kemet’s full support. Kemet is Nottingham’s only urban radio station. You can find out them on 975kemetfm.com.
The dollies were shaking their booties at the Riverside Festival at the weekend. One of the dollies is now touring with Kemet and enjoyed the day out at the Festival with Radio Presenters Lisa Jackson, Mr Notch and Christine Belle. One happy festival goer donned our dolly like a wolley hat – steady on! Others wanted to take her home – sorry – get your own dolly and enter him/her into our competition!
